Kramer, Yama summoned to Appear in Court

Madang Governor, Peter Charles Yama, and Justice Minister and Madang MP, Bryan Kramer, have been summoned by the National Court in Madang this morning to appear in court tomorrow.

The two were summoned to appear in Court and explain why the Madang Town roads have deteriorated over time and were not fixed to date.

Justice David Cannings, who is on the court circuit in Madang issued the summons after the two leaders failed to appear, following a directive by the same court on January 11.

The matter stems from a Human Rights case filed against them and the Senior Public Servants by Justice Cannings.

Six senior government officers in Madang Province were summoned and appeared before Justice David Cannings at the Madang National Court over this matter on January 11th, 2021, while nine (9) other persons with genuine and legitimate interests also joined the proceedings, after seeking leave from the court during that hearing.

The six (6) public servants include the Provincial Administrator, the Madang District Chief Executive Officer, the Provincial Works Manager, the Town Manager, Provincial Police Commander, and the Jail Commander.

The 9 who joined the proceedings include lawyers Remsy Pariwa and Young Wadau, Human Rights Advocate, Stephen Asivo,  Sama Mellombo, Chairman of the Basamuk Landowners Association, Sama Mellembo, Madang Provincial Council of Women's President Mary Kamang, and Joe Vovonam, a long time Madang Town resident.

Human Rights advocate, Stephen Asivo, had earlier told the Court that the two leaders should be summoned to appear before the Court because they need to tell the people of Madang, how they have spent their development funds, and not the public servants, who are only implementers.
