Steven response to PM Marape's claims on PNG ICAC Bill

Former PNG deputy prime minister Davis Steven has responded to Prime Minister Marape's claims on ICAC bill. He released the following statement.

Statement

"Now PMJM knows the process involved in passing laws and especially the ICAC?

No one is interested in his claim as the champion for ICAC and anti-corruption fighter.

The records are there to show how the delay happened between the first and second readings.

Officials involved in the process know that the bill was delayed at the second reading because PMJM was entertaining political pressure to amend the bill.

He was directing that amendments be introduced on matters like "human rights protections" and expatriate membership despite repeated explanations from our technical people.

I want to point out that I am not interested in his claim for credit and glory for ICAC.

He should humbly get the job of getting ICAC off the ground with as much enthusiasm.

My point is that he must prove his intention to reform OC as he has promised. How this will happen is what PMJM must tell the people, not glory in outcomes of others labour.

He is aware of the effort of the OC to stop the ICAC bill from passing. He chairs the Appointment Committee that decided the current leadership.

He must do something about the gaping holes and weakness in our country's governance framework.

With the loss of confidence in the OC and our governance agencies, ICAC must now be given priority.

PMJM must tell us how much he has allocated for the establishment cost. Because what is in the budget is insufficient.

As for why I chose to leave the government, he doesn't need to ask.
