COVID-19 Cases in Port Moresby passed Thousand

 The number of COVID-19 cases in NCD surpassed 1 000 over the weekend, and there's a possibility a lockdown will be imposed.

NCD Governor Powes Parkop announced last week that the capital city will have to be locked down if the number of COVID-19 cases reaches 1 000.

The current number in NCD stands at 1,030 as of last Saturday.

Controller of the National Pandemic Response David Manning announced 90 new cases on Saturday, raising PNG's total to 2,173.

The new cases were reported from five provinces with the highest of 65 from the National Capital District.

West Sepik reported 3, Bougainville 4, Hela 7 and Enga 11.

The death toll remains at 21.

Mr. Manning says the reports show that everyone is at risk.

Prime Minister James Marape will address the media on the COVID-19 situation in a news conference at 2 o'clock this afternoon.
