 A total of 8,301 people have recovered from COVID-19 as of Friday April 23.

So far of the 82,526 COVID-19 tests done to date, 10,602 people have tested positive as of Friday April 23. This includes 102 who have died from COVID-19.

A total of 2,199 cases are active within the last 14 days whilst 674 tests are pending laboratory results.

Police Commissioner and Controller of the PNG COVID-19 National Pandemic Response Mr David Manning has called upon citizens to continue to comply with the measures in the new normal or “Niupela Pasin”.

He said recovering from COVID-19 does not mean that the danger is over. The country's COVID-19 cases are still climbing and public support is needed to contain the pandemic from spreading even further.

Mr Manning said everyone must continue to:

• Regularly wash hands with soap and water or use an alcohol-based sanitizer;

• Maintain a physical distance of at least 1.5 meters between themselves and others;

• Avoid touching their eyes, nose and mouth;

• Greet others with a smile, a nod or a simple hello - no handshakes, fist bumps or high fives;

• Cough and sneeze in their bent elbow and not their hands;

• Limit social gathering and time spent in crowded places;

• Wear a face mask or face covering in all public places to protect themselves and others; and

• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
