Police Commissioner and Controller of the PNG COVID-19 National Pandemic Response David Manning today announced that all primary and secondary schools within Papua New Guinea are to resume classes on Monday 19th of April, 2021.

He directed that all schools are to strictly adhere to the COVID-19 measures and embrace the “Niupela Pasin” going forward.

Mr Manning said, “Wearing of face masks must be strictly enforced in all schools. Hand sanitizing or hand washing must also be maintained. Schools must also practice safe distancing. Any student who is sick must be discouraged from attending school until they have been cleared by the health authorities.”

The Controller said that as of Sunday April 11 the PNG COVID-19 statistics has gone up to 8,602 confirmed cases with 69 COVID-19 related deaths so everyone must be mindful of this and help play their part in stopping the disease from continuing the upward spiral.
