PNG Police launches ten year corporate plan

Papua New Guinea Police Minister William Onglo today launched the Royal Papua New Constabulary Constabulary's ten year corporate plan 2021-2030.

The launch took place at the Ela Beach Hotel in Port Moresby in a small but significant ceremony attended to by senior officers of the Constabulary as well as government officials including Chief Ombudsman Richard Pagen, Finance Secretary Dr Ken Ngangan, former Police Commissioner and Chief Ombudsman Ila Geno, and Commander of the Australia PNG Policing Partnership Amanda Kate.

Operational Police Assistant Police from around the country also attended the launch which Police Commissioner David Manning described as a milestone achievement for the Constabulary.

Mr Manning said the Constabulary's corporate plan outlines the organisation's goals and strategies, the Constabulary will be employing over the course of the next ten years to fulfil its constitutional mandate to preserve peace and good order and maintain and as necessary, enforce the law impartially and objectively.

"The corporate plan strengthens our commitment to rebuilding the police force to better serve our people. It is a commitment for us to do better for those whom we have sworn to protect and serve," Mr Manning said.

The Commissioner sees the corporate plan as a signal for accountability at all levels of the command structure of the Constabulary. He said the corporate plan recognizes the need for the Constabulary to strengthen accountability and good governance, and reinforces commitment and willingness to adhere to process and procedures.

"For the Constabulary this is really what it means to go back to basics.

"At all times we must remain relevant in what we do. We need to be mindful of expectations of the communities and stakeholders to whom we are duty-bound to serve," Mr Manning said.

He said being relevant, responsive, and subservient to the government and people is key to the existence of the Constabulary as an organization.

In conclusion Mr Manning further challenged the members of the Constabulary to understand the corporate plan and know where they fit in and work with him and his management to rebuild the Constabulary to better serve the people.
