41 new COVID-19 cases recorded on Wednesday June 9 – PNG total at 16,621
Papua New Guinea recorded 41 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours ending 12 midday on Wednesday June 9, increasing the total number of cases to 16,621.
The cases were reported in nine provinces with Madang reporting the highest of 12 cases followed by National Capital District with nine cases. New Ireland reported six cases, Hela four, Gulf and East New Britain three each, Jiwaka two whilst Central and East Sepik reported a case each.
Of the 41 cases reported, 28 are males and 13 females. Their ages range from 21 to 36 years.
The country’s COVID-19 cases now stands at 16,621 with 164 known deaths. A total of 15,942 people have recovered from COVID-19. A total of 515 cases remain active within the last 21-day period.
To date, 125,919 people have been tested for COVID-19 with 523 samples pending laboratory results.
All 22 provinces including the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (AROB) have reported cases.
As of June 8 a total of 39,877 people in all 22 provinces have received their first dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine. This included 6,288 health workers and 32,855 essential workers.
Globally, the total confirmed cases of COVID-19 has reached 174,720,620 including 347,845 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. The death toll stands at 3,761,763 including 9,562 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
