COVID-19 cases in PNG continue to rise

 Papua New Guinea has recorded 26 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours ending 12 midday on Thursday 8th July 2021, increasing the total number of cases to 17,334.


The cases were reported in six provinces with Hela province reporting the highest of 16 cases followed by the National Capital District with four cases. Eastern Highlands reported three cases whilst Morobe, East New Britain and the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, all reported a single case each.

Of the 26 cases reported, 15 are males and 11 are females. Their ages range from one to 65 years.

Twenty-two out of the 26 cases were experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 at the time of testing.

The country’s COVID-19 cases now stands at 17,334 with 179 known deaths. Total cumulative recoveries stands at 16,946. To date, a total of 136,034 people have tested for COVID-19.

All 22 provinces including the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (AROB) have reported cases.

Globally, the total confirmed cases of COVID-19 has reached 185,393,558 including 460,246 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. The death toll stands at 4,009,289 including 8,456 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
