PNG Team Leave for Dubai Expo

Papua New Guinea will be represented at the Dubai Expo.

Led by PNG Expo Deputy Commissioner Jacinta Manua, nine members of the PNG team left over the weekend for the United Arab Emirates.

With the World Expo theme “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future” the Expo is set for Oct 1 to March 31, 2022.

The PNG team accomplished all objectives and is set for the expo despite the short callout made by PNG’s ambassador to Belgium and the European Union and Expo Commissioner, Joshua Kalinoe to all stakeholders in working collectively to ensure PNG has all the artifacts it needs for display and sale.

With more than 191 participating nations, numerous pavilions, attractions, and events, the Expo aims to inspire and initiate change and create a future with a focus on sustainability and mobility.

With sustainability taking center stage of the Expo, the PNG team members will set up the PNG pavilion sustainable thematic area of the Expo village and showcase the country’s natural resources, culture, and unique flora and fauna, technological advances, and key organizations and businesses.

It will also promote products from SMEs and the cottage industry, including artifacts, crafts, spices, coconut by-products, and jewelry.

Before leaving for Dubai, Deputy Commissioner Jacinta Manua told the media that it is an important exercise that will go right throughout the world.

“We have been preparing for over a year or so and now we’re ready for Dubai,” said Manua.

The officers were picked from Foreign Affairs, Department of Information and Communications Technology, Investment Promotion Authority, Tourism Promotion Authority, Finance Department, and the Defence Force.

“We are hoping to show the world that Papua New Guinea is ready to do business with them in trade, investment as well as sharing of knowledge and ideas,” she said.

“Papua New Guinea is in the sustainability thematic area that reflects the importance of our policies in terms of environmental sustainability and sustainable development.”

Manua said the Apec Haus in Port Moresby would be the virtual conference site for the expo in which programs in Dubai would be shown.

The Expo is expected to draw 25,000,000 people from all around the world.
