Solomon Air Schedules Flights after Australia eased Border restrictions

This came after Australia eased its border entry requirements by allowing its citizens and permanent residents who are fully vaccinated to return via Sydney without quarantine restrictions.

A statement from the Solomon Islands National Air carrier stated the Sydney services will initially operate during November and December only, flying Honiara Sydney-Brisbane on 19 November, 3 December and 17 December.

The flight is for outbound travelers flying from Honiara to Sydney and from Honiara via Sydney to Brisbane.

Solomon Airlines Chief Executive Officer Brett Gebers said they are thankful to the Australian government for making the flights possible.

“We are very appreciative of the fast work and co-operation of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade to help make these passenger flights possible, as soon Australia’s entry conditions changed,” Mr. Geber said.

In his nation wide address last week, Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare announced that any traveler who is 18 years and above wishing to travel to Solomon Islands must be fully vaccinated.

Meanwhile, intending travellers must undertake their final vaccination doses 4 weeks prior to their travel date.

The Cabinet has agreed to lift the suspension of incoming international flights last week as part of its plans to slowly reopen the borders.
