Weather Warning for PNG : Wet Season Nearing Peak
The Papua New Guinea National Weather Service has advised that the wet season is nearing its peak.
Assistant Director of the National Weather Office, Jimmy Gomoga says a low-pressure system in the Coral Sea may become a Tropical Cyclone by the end of the weekend or early next week.
Mr. Gomoga says the system will not pose any threat to PNG but will enhance westerly bursts or surges over the country.
He further adds that PNG National Weather Service will continue to monitor and report any developments associated with tropical cyclone activity within its areas of responsibility.
The Assistant Director of the National Weather Service also says northwest monsoon surges and rainfall with thunderstorms are expected across the country by the end of the weekend and into next week.
Meantime, the general public is urged to take heed and comply with the warnings issued by the PNG National Weather Service.
