FIFA World Cup Qualifier in Qatar : PNG Kapuls wins

The Papua New Guinea Kapuls have jumped into second place behind New Zealand after its 1-0 win over New Caledonia in Group B of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Oceania qualifier, on Monday morning (21/03/22) in Doha, Qatar.

A Tommy Semmy goal in the first 20 minutes and strong defence saw the Kapuls hold New Caledonia to the 1 nil win, while New Zealand defeated Fiji 4-0 for PNG to go into second place.

Coach Marcos Gusmao says while he's happy with the results, there's still areas to improve on.

''This victory is for our people Papua New Guineans to believe in our nationals,'' said Gusmao.

PNG will play the last pool match against Fiji on Thursday and must defeat Fiji for a final placing or as an equal score-line draw to be in the finals.
