Former PNG Kumuls Coach Michael Marum elected Governor of East New Britain

 Former Papua New Guinea  Kumul Coach and Independent Candidate Michael Marum has now been declared as the Governor elect for  Papua New Guinea's East New Britain Province.

Mr. Marum was officially declared by the Provincial Returning Officer Joap Voivoi at 4:30 pm this afternoon (Wednesday).


After exclusion 21, Mr. Marum polled 33, 285 votes, while his runner up and United Labour Party Candidate Cosmas Bauk managed to poll 25, 433 votes.

The Absolute Majority was 29, 359 votes.

Mr. Marum was invited by the Provincial Returning Officer Joap Voivoi to sign the instrument as the Official Governor elect, and this was witnessed by the members of the East New Britain Provincial Election Steering Committee.

In his maiden speech, Marum thanked the outgoing MPs Dr Allan Marat, Emil Tammur and Nakikus Konga for their service to the people of East New Britain Province, and further invites them to be part of his working team for a better East New Britain.

Mr. Marum thanked the people of East New Britain for allowing a son from the Rabaul District to take up the Governor’s post, which has been predominantly dominantly by people from the Kokopo, Gazelle and Pomio Districts.

He was also congratulated by the Provincial Administrator Wilson Matava on behalf of the people and the public servants in the province.
