PNG Deputy Prime Minister John Rosso retains Lae Open Seat

Papua New Guinea Deputy Prime Minister and Lae MP John Rosso has been declared on first preferential votes this evening scoring almost 27 thousand votes.

Rosso collected 26,864 primary votes reaching 50 per-cent plus one or  absolute majority of the total votes.


The votes were received across Lae city from 65 wards.

He thanked the people of Lae for showing the confidence and returning him overwhelmingly in his victory speech at the Sir Ignatius Kilage stadium.

"Bikpla thank you tru long ol pipol blong Lae disla absolute majority yupela sowim, me tok thank you and I stand very humble before all you peers. Me no stretpela man me wankain olsem yupela tasol I will do my best to ensure that Lae rightfully deserves its place as the second largest city of PNG."

Rosso further condemned election related violence in Markham and Kabuwm district which saw ballot boxes and papers destroyed.
