PNG Parliament Speaker Job Pomat retains Manus Open Seat

Incumbent  Manus MP and  PNG Parliament speaker  Job Pomat has retained his Manus Open Seat, after being declared member-elect this morning.

Mr. Pomat polled 9,186 votes exceeding the absolute majority in the 34th exclusion.

This will be his second term in Parliament.


Mr. Pomat  who contested under the Pangu Party was officially declared the Manus Open member-elect by Returning Officer Theresa Yohang at 8:30am this morning.

He acknowledged all Manusians for trusting in his leadership, including the Electoral Commission and security personnel for facilitating and ensuring safe elections in the province.

He had maintained a steady lead from the primary counts while former MP Ronnie Knight, and Lynne Ozzane Ronnie collected votes that saw them occupying the 2nd and 3rd positions through much of the race.

By the 34th exclusion, the last women standing Lynne Ronnie bowed out with 5, 536 votes.

Her ballots decided the final results.

Mr. Knight reached 7,224 while Pomat reached 9, 168 votes exceeding the absolute majority, at 8,197 votes.  

Mr. Pomat also acknowledged all other candidates in the race.

Both seats in the Manus Province were retained by PANGU candidates and sitting MP’s. 

The declarations now conclude the election period in Manus Province.
