Prime Minister   James Marape has welcomed the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Rt. Hon. Patricia Scotland to Papua New Guinea.

Prime Minister Marape said today of the visit: “I welcome Her Excellency Rt. Hon. Patricia Scotland to Papua New Guinea.

“PNG is part of the Commonwealth family of nations which is an important global block of nations.

“As an emerging nation and an island country in the midst of many global issues, like climate change and rising sea level, the economic effects of global geopolitics, and world pandemics and COVID-19, being a part of a family of nations like the Commonwealth is important.

“Collectively, we can stand shoulder-to-shoulder and advocate on these issues that are important to us.

“We appreciate the visit by Her Excellency to PNG. I also congratulate her on a historic second-term.

“We look forward to giving her our support just as we look forward to working with all nations of the Commonwealth,” said PM Marape.
