Power and Water Supply to Port Moresby restored after Government pays K5 million to Koiari Landowners
The electricity and Waters supply to the Papua New Guinea Capital Port Moresby has been restored following the government intervention with K5 million upfront payment.
The Koiari landowners agreed to restore power and water supply into Port Moresby and Central Province after meeting with government officials last night.
At exactly 9.45pm last night , the landowners with Minister for Commerce and Industry, Hon. Henry Amuli, Member for Hiri-Koiari, Hon. Keith Iduhu, PNG Power CEO, Mr. Obed Batia and Central Provincial Police Commander, Laimo Asi closed the radial gates to the Rouna 2 pond and the water supply was restored as of this morning.
The landowners have been demanding the government to pay K15 million outstanding compensation but this has not been forthcoming. They shut down the water and electricity supply to the city on Tuesday 3rd October in protest.
The PNG Government intervene by paying K5 million upfront and consequently the water and electricity supplies were restored.
