Anna Ila Recognized as Leader of the Year at "Women in Safety" Awards in Sydney

Anna Ila, the safety manager at OK Tedi Mining Limited (OTML), was honored with the prestigious "Leader of the Year" award at the "Women in Safety" awards ceremony held in Sydney, Australia, in November.

The recognition bestowed upon Ila was attributed to her exemplary leadership and pivotal contributions showcased through OTML's 2023 safety plan. Her approach emphasized fostering inclusive relationships with business partners, implementing targeted risk-based strategies for safety management, and a dedicated focus on addressing major hazards and behavioral safety.


Amid stiff competition, Ila emerged among the 24 finalists from a pool of approximately 100 outstanding nominations. Expressing gratitude, she credited the support and recognition from her management for enabling her to effectively fulfill her role. She acknowledged the collective efforts that led her team to establish OTML as a safe workplace for employees and business partners.

Ila highlighted the significance of the award, emphasizing the commendable efforts of women in effecting change within the safety landscape. In particular, she underscored the challenges within the mining industry, where the workforce faces inherent risks that significantly impact their safety and overall well-being.

Mark Stone, OTML's general manager for people and culture, congratulated Ila on her achievement. He encouraged more women to excel in roles related to safety and occupational health, noting Ila's capability in leading the team towards implementing Ok Tedi's safety enhancement plans.
