Since 2021, significant upgrades totaling over PGK 26 million have been allocated to Lae and Motukea ports. These enhancements include the implementation of CCTV cameras and vessel tracking systems to fortify security measures.

Furthermore, additional security and safety enhancements encompass the installation of over 12 kilometers of palisade fencing across various ports in PNG. Notably, more than 545 solar light installations have been carried out as part of this initiative.

Specifically directed towards Buka and Kieta ports, an investment of PGK 1.43 million has been allocated for solar security lights and perimeter fencing, contributing to the overall security bolstering measures.

The collaborative efforts between Australia and PNG signify a concerted commitment to fortifying the nation's ports, enabling them to play a crucial role in the national economy and bolstering their significance in the global trade landscape.

The Australian High Commission in PNG is anticipating the unveiling of the comprehensive video story in 2024, shedding light on the profound impact of these upgrades on PNG's port infrastructure and their pivotal role in international trade facilitation.
