Indonesia’s President-Elect Prabowo Subianto Visits PNG on First Official Trip
The President-Elect of Indonesia, His Excellency Prabowo Subianto, arrived in Port Moresby yesterday afternoon, making his first official international visit since his election. The visit underscores the growing importance of Indonesia-Papua New Guinea relations on the regional stage.
Prime Minister James Marape, along with a delegation of senior government officials and departmental heads, welcomed President-Elect Subianto at the airport. The reception highlighted the strong diplomatic ties between the two nations and set a positive tone for the bilateral discussions that followed.
After the formal welcome, President-Elect Subianto and Prime Minister Marape proceeded to the Stanley Hotel, where they engaged in a bilateral meeting. The discussions were anticipated to cover key issues such as enhancing trade, regional security cooperation, and strengthening overall bilateral relations. Both leaders have expressed a strong desire to deepen the partnership between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.
The Indonesian Ambassador to PNG, His Excellency Andriana Supandy, along with Embassy staff, was also present to greet President-Elect Subianto, further emphasizing the importance of this diplomatic visit and the shared objectives between the two countries.
President-Elect Subianto’s visit to Papua New Guinea was brief, lasting only a few hours. He returned to Indonesia later in the day, concluding his first official engagement abroad as Indonesia’s incoming leader.
