Mr. Seddon has shown exceptional leadership during his interim tenure, overseeing major developments, including the fleet replacement program with Airbus and Boeing, enhancing the airline’s route network, and improving customer service. His leadership has been instrumental in positioning Air Niugini to meet both challenges and opportunities within the regional market.
Air Niugini Chairman, Mr. Karl Yalo, expressed confidence in Mr. Seddon’s leadership, stating that his permanent appointment would accelerate the airline’s re-fleeting program. This includes the scheduled arrival of Airbus A220 aircraft in September next year, coinciding with Papua New Guinea’s 50th Independence Anniversary. Mr. Yalo congratulated Mr. Seddon on behalf of the Board of Directors, highlighting his strategic vision and operational expertise.
In his response, Mr. Seddon expressed his gratitude to the NEC, Prime Minister, and Minister for State Enterprises. He acknowledged the challenges ahead but remained optimistic about overcoming them with the support of Air Niugini’s dedicated team. He also thanked the airline’s customers for their patience and understanding during the transition period.
Minister for State Enterprises, Hon. William Duma, welcomed the NEC’s decision, emphasizing that Air Niugini, like other state-owned enterprises, is responsible for delivering reliable services at affordable prices. He added that Mr. Seddon is tasked with meeting key performance indicators while providing a sustainable return on investment. Minister Duma also highlighted the importance of the fleet upgrade, noting that the acquisition of Airbus A220s and Boeing 787 Dreamliners will make Air Niugini the leading airline in the region.
