SP PNG Hunters Defeat Falcons 24-10 to Advance to Hostplus Cup Preliminary Final
The SP PNG Hunters are now one step closer to securing the prestigious Hostplus Cup title after a 24-10 victory over the Sunshine Coast Falcons in a semi-final showdown at Sunshine Coast Stadium, Australia. This win advances the Hunters to the preliminary final, where they will face the Norths Devils with a grand final spot at stake.
In the opening 20 minutes, the Falcons controlled possession and applied pressure on the Hunters' defense. However, despite their dominance, they were unable to break through the Hunters’ resilient defense and failed to take an early lead.
Hunters winger Brandon Nima opened the scoring in the 21st minute, followed by a second try from Judah Rimbu in the 34th minute, giving the Hunters a 10-0 advantage at halftime. The Falcons struggled to convert their chances in the first half.
The Falcons fought back in the second half, scoring tries through Young Tonumaipea and Flynn Camilleri to close the gap to 10-8. However, the Hunters quickly regained their momentum with tries from Solo Wane and Elijah Roltinga, further increasing their lead.
The match was capped off by a final try from Whallan Tau-Loi in the 79th minute, securing the Hunters' 24-10 win. They now look ahead to a crucial clash against the Norths Devils, with a spot in the grand final on the line.
