PNG DICT Collaborates with USAID to Drive Digital Transformation
Papua New Guinea's Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has entered into a strategic partnership with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to propel the nation's digital transformation. The partnership agreement was formalized on November 18, 2024.
The initiative aims to improve connectivity and bolster cybersecurity, marking a significant step in the country's technological progress. DICT Deputy Secretary for Digital Government and Information Delivery, Russell Woruba, highlighted the importance of the collaboration, noting its alignment with Papua New Guinea's upcoming 50th independence anniversary celebrations.
“This partnership paves the way for our nation’s digital future as we commemorate 50 years of independence,” Mr. Woruba stated, emphasizing the long-term impact of the collaboration.
USAID's Chief of Party for the Digital Connectivity and Cybersecurity Partnership, Anju Mangal, underscored the partnership’s role in fostering inclusivity. She stressed the initiative’s potential to drive job creation, innovation, and enhanced education, benefiting women, youth, and individuals with disabilities.
Ms. Mangal remarked, “Technology has the capacity to connect rural and urban communities, fostering a more inclusive digital environment for all.”
The partnership is expected to bring transformative opportunities to the people of Papua New Guinea, reinforcing the country's progress toward a digitally empowered future.
