Engage in Politics, Lose Your Scholarship – PNG Minister’s Warning

Papua New Guinea Petroleum Minister and Esa’ala MP Jimmy Maladina has cautioned tertiary students benefiting from the Esa’ala District Development Authority (EDDA) scholarship program to refrain from participating in strikes, boycotts, or political gatherings.

Maladina emphasized that any student found engaging in such activities would face immediate removal from the program. He stressed that the scholarship was intended to support education, not political activism.

The warning was issued as a firm reminder to all EDDA-sponsored students to prioritize their academic responsibilities and remain focused on their studies throughout the academic year.

According to Maladina, students must understand their primary purpose in tertiary institutions, which is to gain an education rather than engage in political affairs.

He reiterated that the EDDA scholarship program is designed to assist students in achieving academic success, urging them to take full advantage of the opportunity provided.

“Our children are in school to get an education,” Maladina stated, reinforcing the importance of academic commitment over political involvement.
