PNG Parliament Appoints First-Ever Female Speaker

Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape has commended the historic appointment of North Bougainville MP Francesca Semoso as the first female member of Parliament to preside over a parliamentary session as Assistant Speaker.

Marape described the milestone as a significant step towards gender representation in the country's political landscape. He stated that after 50 years, the appointment marked a defining moment for both Parliament and the nation.
