PNG Prime Minister Marape Engages New U.S. Administration in Landmark Talks

 Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape has met with key figures in the new United States administration to reinforce bilateral ties and explore expanded cooperation between the two nations.

According to official sources, Prime Minister Marape held talks with U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, and other senior American defense and government officials during his visit to Washington, D.C.

The discussions reportedly focused on strengthening collaboration in trade, investment, maritime security, and regional defense. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific and ensuring continued regional stability.

Deputy Secretary Landau congratulated Papua New Guinea as it approaches its 50th independence anniversary and confirmed he would attend the celebrations set for September.

The U.S. Embassy in Port Moresby welcomed the renewed partnership and emphasized the deepening relationship based on shared values and mutual interests. “We look forward to our next 50 years together,” the embassy stated.
