PNG Airline Air Niugini Responds to ‘Jet Junket’ Report
Papua New Guinea’s Air Niugini has issued a clarification in response to the Post Courier’s front-page headline “Jet Junket”, confirming that only three officials, including the Board Chairman, are travelling to Canada for the handover of the airline’s first Airbus A220-300.
Air Niugini stated that the travel arrangements are standard practice for an event of this nature. The ceremonial handover, held in Mirabel, Montreal, marks the symbolic transfer of ownership from Airbus to Air Niugini and includes important technical and legal procedures.
The airline emphasised that the presence of key representatives is crucial in maintaining long-term relationships with manufacturers and aviation partners. These connections are vital to supporting Papua New Guinea’s aviation industry into the future.
The Airbus A220-300 is the first of eleven aircraft ordered by Air Niugini to serve the travelling public of Papua New Guinea. The program is described as the largest fleet upgrade investment in the airline’s history.
Air Niugini confirmed that the aircraft, named P2-PGA, will be officially welcomed in Port Moresby as part of Papua New Guinea’s 50th Independence Anniversary celebrations.
