PNG Public Servants Set for 3% Pay Rise in 2026

Public servants across Papua New Guinea will receive a 3 percent pay increase starting January 2026 following the signing of the 2026–2028 Pay Fixation Agreement in Port Moresby.

The Memorandum of Agreement was signed between the Department of Personnel Management (DPM) and the Public Employees Association (PEA), marking a new phase in public sector wage and employment conditions.

DPM Secretary Tais Sansan said the agreement represents a fair and sustainable improvement to salaries while maintaining responsible fiscal management. She noted that the increment has already been factored into the 2026 national budget to ensure long-term stability and continuity of services.

Sansan emphasized that the pay rise demonstrates the government’s commitment to recognising the efforts of public servants while balancing national financial priorities.

Public Employees Association President Isowa More welcomed the agreement, calling it a milestone achievement in promoting industrial harmony and strengthening public service welfare.

He said the 3 percent increase reflects ongoing collaboration between government agencies and the workforce, which is vital for productivity and service delivery.

The agreement replaces the 2022–2024 pay arrangement and reinforces the state’s acknowledgment of the critical role public servants play in Papua New Guinea’s development. “Public Servants will soon have a 3 percent general salary increase starting January 2026.”
