PNG High Court Orders Election of Opposition Leader After Legal Dispute
Papua New Guinea’s Supreme Court has intervened in the opposition leadership struggle, ordering that a new Opposition Leader be elected by Monday at 1:30 pm.
The five-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice Sir Gibbs Salika and Deputy Chief Justice Ambeng Kandakasi, issued the ruling at 2:35 pm.

The matter arose after Deputy Opposition Leader James Nomane sought official recognition, claiming he was elected by opposition members, but his election was rejected by the Speaker of Parliament.
Current Opposition Leader Douglas Tomuriesa disputes Nomane’s claim, maintaining that he remains the rightful leader. The Supreme Court’s order now establishes a firm timeline for resolving the leadership question.
