PNG hooker Judah Rimbu set for Perth Bears train-and-trial opportunity

Papua New Guinea hooker Judah Rimbu is being lined up for a train-and-trial deal with the Perth Bears as the new club continues building its roster for entry into the NRL, according to Channel Nine.

Rimbu, a popular figure among PNG rugby league supporters, has reportedly agreed in principle to link up with the expansion side as it finalises early recruitment targets. The arrangement would allow him to compete for a full-time contract should he impress during the initial trial period.

The move reflects Perth’s strategy of identifying emerging talent from the Pacific region, with Rimbu’s development and performances drawing increasing attention. His consistent displays for the PNG Hunters in the Queensland Cup, combined with his national team experience, have strengthened his prospects of breaking into the NRL system.

Reports indicate that the Bears are in discussions with a number of players as they prepare for their inaugural season. Rimbu’s potential inclusion signals the club’s intent to invest in young, dynamic footballers capable of growing with the franchise.

The Perth project continues to build momentum, and Rimbu’s expected arrival adds to growing anticipation around what the team may achieve as it assembles its foundation squad.
