Education Minister Lucas Dawa Dekena said the renewed focus recognises the role education plays in building a strong and productive society. He said the budget share rising to 16 per cent reflects the Government’s intention to strengthen the sector.
He said the funding increase will drive efforts to enhance access to schooling, improve quality standards and address inequalities between urban and remote communities. The minister stated that these areas remain crucial to the nation's progress.
Minister Dekena said that a stable and skilled workforce begins in the classroom, and consistent investment is needed to sustain improvements across all levels. He said the commitment shown in the 2026 budget provides the momentum the sector needs.
The minister reaffirmed that education remains central to national development goals. “This is a national investment into the country’s future wealth, stability and productivity,” he said.
