The aircraft, registered P2-PGB, arrived after a long delivery journey that began in Montreal, Canada, on December 5. The route included stopovers in Vancouver, Honolulu and Fiji before reaching Papua New Guinea.

The A220-300 was flown into Port Moresby by Air Niugini Captain Timothy Narara, accompanied by Airbus pilot Captain Christian Pachlakto, and was painted in the airline’s signature livery.

On arrival, the aircraft was welcomed with a traditional water salute and later blessed by Pastor Chris Ivan of the PNG Bible Church as part of a formal ceremony.

The event was attended by Minister for State Owned Enterprises, Honourable William Duma, along with senior government officials, Air Niugini board members, management, staff and invited guests.
