The new bridge replaces an earlier structure that was washed away during heavy rains in December last year, cutting off villages and disrupting the movement of people, goods and services across the district.

Speaking during the dedication ceremony, Mr O’Neill said the bridge was critical for everyday life in the area, allowing students, health workers, farmers and public servants to travel safely between communities.

He acknowledged the Ialibu–Pangia District Development Authority for stepping in quickly after the bridge collapse and ensuring funds were mobilised without delay.

Mr O’Neill also praised local contractor NEPS Construction for completing the project under tight timelines, noting that workers stayed on site day and night to make sure the bridge was ready as soon as possible.

“My thanks to the DDA and NEPS Construction for working around the clock to deliver this bridge after the old one was washed away — wok mas go yet,” Mr O’Neill said.
