Outgoing US Ambassador Reflects on Strengthened PNG Partnership

 The outgoing United States Ambassador to Papua New Guinea, Her Excellency Ms Ann Marie Yastishock, has reflected on years of closer cooperation between PNG and the US as she prepares to leave the country next week.

Ms Yastishock held farewell outcalls with Foreign Affairs Minister Justin Tkatchenko and Foreign Secretary Elias Wohengu during her final engagements in Port Moresby.

The meetings reviewed progress made across defence, maritime security and economic cooperation during her tenure.

Officials highlighted the implementation of the Defence Cooperation Agreement, which has strengthened coordination between PNG and US defence forces.

Several Shiprider operations were also discussed, allowing PNG authorities to patrol national waters and address illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing.

The talks further acknowledged the signing of the Framework for Strategic Cooperation and increased commercial engagement between PNG and US companies.

In a statement following the meeting, Minister Tkatchenko said the discussions marked the conclusion of Ms Yastishock’s diplomatic posting.

“With departing US Ambassador to Papua New Guinea, Her Excellency Ms Ann Marie Yastishock, following our final brief meeting today,” Tkatchenko said.
