According to the Australian High Commission in PNG, the Australian Government has approved a special low-cost visa framework aimed at strengthening people-to-people links ahead of the PNG Chiefs joining the National Rugby League in 2028.
The initiative covers a wide group of Papua New Guinean nationals associated with the franchise, including athletes, coaching staff, administrators, media representatives and travelling supporters.
As part of the new arrangements, visa application fees for Chiefs-related travel will drop to approximately PGK75 (AUD25), replacing current charges that can cost applicants up to PGK1,300 (AUD430).
PNG Chiefs fans will be able to apply for a 12-month multiple-entry visitor visa, allowing them to make short trips to Australia throughout the NRL season to attend matches.
To support the rollout, Australian authorities will launch a dedicated online portal providing visa guidance and resources specifically tailored for PNG Chiefs players, officials, media and supporters.
