PNG Government Urged to Pay 3% Payrise for Public Servants in First Pay of 2026

PEA General Secretary Ugwalubu Mowana
Public servants across Papua New Guinea are eagerly awaiting their first salary of 2026, hoping it includes the promised 3 percent payrise.

The Public Employees Association (PEA) has called on the government to ensure that the increase is paid without delay. PEA General Secretary Ugwalubu Mowana said the agreement with the Department of Personnel Management was finalized back in October last year.

“This is the first salary of the year, and our members expect to see the increase included. There should be no excuses or hold-ups,” Mr Mowana said.

Not all public service employees will benefit, however. Teachers and members of the disciplined forces are excluded as they follow separate salary laws and regulations.

Mr Mowana stressed that the government has had sufficient time to prepare for the increase and must now deliver on its commitment.

The association also urged transparency, asking that the payment be reflected clearly in employees’ payslips this fortnight.

“Workers have waited patiently. It’s time the government honours the agreement and pays the increase,” Mr Mowana added.
