The program, which is already underway, focuses on clearing derelict cars from streets and private yards while creating short-term employment for local youth and contractors.
Suburbs identified in the exercise include Sabama, Kogeva and Kaugere, where residents have been encouraged to come forward if they have old vehicles or scrap metal cluttering their properties or surrounding streets.
Under the initiative, youth groups engaged through the electorate’s empowerment program will collect and remove the wrecks at no cost to households, easing a burden that often discourages clean-up efforts.
The removal drive forms part of a wider effort to improve neighbourhood safety, reduce health risks and restore a cleaner environment for families living in Moresby South.
Community members have been urged to cooperate with the youth teams to ensure the clean-up is carried out smoothly and efficiently.
