PNG Capital Port Moresby Set for Landmark InterContinental Hotel Development
Port Moresby’s skyline is poised for further transformation with plans confirmed for a luxury InterContinental hotel at the Waigani Precinct, marking a major investment in Papua New Guinea’s tourism and hospitality landscape.
The project will be developed through a partnership between IHG Hotels & Resorts and Gulf Province Properties Limited, forming a key component of a broader mixed-use precinct within the capital.
Under the proposal, the InterContinental Port Moresby will house about 179 rooms, targeting high-end clientele including business executives, government delegations and international visitors travelling to PNG.
Stakeholders say the new hotel is expected to set a fresh standard for luxury accommodation in the country while strengthening the capital’s appeal as a gateway for regional and international engagements.
IHG officials have indicated that the move to bring the InterContinental brand into Papua New Guinea demonstrates strong confidence in the nation’s future growth and its emerging role in the Pacific economy.
In addition to enhancing tourism, the hotel is projected to attract investment activity and provide employment opportunities during both construction and operational phases.
The development will sit alongside other planned hospitality and residential projects in Port Moresby, supporting the city’s transition into a modern business destination while enhancing the overall urban landscape.
