The Brazilian coach indicated that he had chosen to step away from football to spend more time with his wife and family, adding that this may mark his final involvement in the sport. Club officials said his decision was respected and supported by both management and the board.
During his tenure at PNG Hekari FC, Gusmao played a key role in shaping the club’s long-term direction, including the development of a four-year technical pathway aimed at strengthening youth football and building future talent.
Following his resignation, assistant coach Jerry Allan has been appointed to take charge of the team for the remainder of the season. Allan holds an OFC Senior B Licence and is currently pursuing his A Licence while overseeing first-team duties.
PNG Hekari FC extended its appreciation to Gusmao for his contribution to the club and PNG football, wishing him well in his future endeavours.
