Chairman of the DWU Council Dr Thomas Webster congratulated the graduating class and acknowledged the support given by families, sponsors and partners throughout their studies. He said the Port Moresby graduates were part of nearly 1,569 students graduating across all DWU campuses during the 2025 academic year.

Dr Webster also noted that the year marked 30 years since the university attained its official status in 1996, while its education roots date back to the 1960s in Madang.

He said the Port Moresby campus continues to grow in response to workforce demands, offering both flexible and full-time study programs to support human resource development in Papua New Guinea as the nation approaches its 50th independence anniversary.

Chief Secretary to Government Mr Ivan Pomaleu delivered the keynote address, urging the graduates to serve the country with integrity, professionalism and strong leadership.

“Education is a critical foundation for national development, and graduates must use their knowledge and skills to contribute meaningfully to public service, private enterprise and community development,” Mr Pomaleu said.

DWU President Professor Fr Philip Gibbs also congratulated the students, reflecting on the friendships, academic challenges and achievements experienced during their time at the university.

“Divine Word University continues to form graduates in mind, heart and spirit so they are prepared to serve others with competence, integrity and compassion,” Professor Gibbs said.
