Papua New Guinea has provided a K15 million funding boost to Divine Word University, aimed at improving campus infrastructure and supporting future enrolment growth.

PNG Government Boosts Divine Word University with K15m Funding

The funding was presented by Higher Education Minister Kinoka Hotune Feo during the university’s 44th graduation ceremony held in Madang last week.

Minister Feo said the financial support forms part of the government’s approach to assisting higher education institutions based on their yearly development plans.

He said universities are required to submit their proposed plans for the year, which are then assessed before the government releases funding.

The allocation to Divine Word University will focus on infrastructure maintenance to ensure the campus continues to provide quality learning facilities for students while expanding enrolment opportunities.

University President Philip Gibbs expressed gratitude to the government for the support, describing it as timely assistance for the institution.

“There’s a lot of infrastructural works that we need to do, and it is a very welcoming news that the fundings such as TESAS will be given to the universities sooner rather than later because last year was a bit difficult here,” he said.

“We had a cash flow problem last year because of the lateness in the release of these funds.”
