PNG Hunters Bounce Back After Early Losses with Strong Win

 Papua New Guinea Hunters have responded strongly to back-to-back home defeats, securing a convincing 38-14 victory over Western Clydesdales in Round 3 of the Hostplus Cup on Sunday.

After suffering losses in their opening two matches on home soil, the Hunters arrived in Toowoomba determined to turn their season around, delivering one of their most complete performances so far.

Playing at Toowoomba Sports Ground under fine conditions, the visitors made an explosive start, scoring within the first minute through Sanny Wabo before Myles Banam crossed shortly after.

Joel Gena and Benji Kot added to the tally before halftime, helping PNG establish a commanding 24-4 lead at the break and putting the Clydesdales under pressure.

Although the home side managed three tries in the second half through Peter Gubb, Christopher Woodbridge and Denzel Burns, the Hunters continued to control the game with tries from Bruce Bawase, Gena agin, and Lynchill Kiap.

Trevor Solu and Jamie Mavoko were effective with the boot, combining for five successful conversions to extend the margin.

The result marks a crucial turnaround for the Hunters following their slow start to the season, offering renewed confidence moving forward.
