PNG's Western Pacific University WPU launches AI-powered digital knowledge hub to expand learning opportunities

Papua New Guinea has strengthened its higher education landscape with the opening of a new AI-powered Digital Knowledge Hub at Western Pacific University, giving students greater access to international learning resources and emerging technologies. Launching the facility in Ialibu, former Prime Minister Peter O'Neill said the project reflects the university's commitment to preparing graduates for an increasingly digital workforce while ensuring students from rural communities have equal educational opportunities.

Mr O'Neill said the university has demonstrated that excellence in education is achievable outside the nation's largest cities. He said advances in artificial intelligence mean students can engage with knowledge in new ways by analysing information, testing ideas and building skills needed in today's employment market. Mr O'Neill added that Western Pacific University has established itself as a destination for students from across PNG and the Pacific through its quality teaching, modern infrastructure and peaceful learning environment. He thanked Higher Education Minister Kinoka Feo for participating in the official launch through a live video connection and also acknowledged the university's management, staff and the people of Ialibu-Pangia for their continued support in building the institution. Mr O'Neill said digital education initiatives would continue to expand across schools in Ialibu-Pangia, adding that every student and teacher at Western Pacific University received a tablet during the event to support their studies.
