Hunters Hunted Down: Seagulls Maul PNG Hunters in 54-0 Thrashing

 PNG Hunters were thumped 54-0 by Wynnum Manly Seagulls in a Round 16 clash played at BMD Kougari Oval in Brisbane on Sunday, with the home side crossing for ten tries in a comprehensive victory over the visitors.

The Seagulls set the tone early, striking through Will Parslow in the third minute before Alex Lobb crossed six minutes later to double the advantage. Garry Tuilekutu then grabbed the first of his two tries in the 14th minute, backing it up again just four minutes later, before Jordan Grant added a fifth try in the 21st minute to leave the Hunters reeling early in the contest.

Riley Frame got in on the act in the 34th minute, followed by a second try to Lobb in the 42nd minute, as Wynnum Manly continued to pull away on the scoreboard. The Seagulls went into the sheds with a commanding 30-0 lead at halftime, with Lobb among the chief contributors after slotting conversions in the 5th, 20th, 23rd and 44th minutes.

The second half brought no let-up for the Hunters, as Jaiyden Hunt crossed in the 47th minute before Tuilekutu completed his double with a third try of the match in the 68th minute. Riley Frame rounded out the scoring for tries with his second four-pointer in the 76th minute, sealing a perfect afternoon in front of goal for the home side.

Lobb continued his fine kicking display with conversions in the 48th and 78th minutes before adding a penalty goal in the 79th minute, taking his personal tally to six conversions and a penalty on the day. The match was played in fine weather with good ground conditions at BMD Kougari Oval, though none of that helped the Hunters, who were unable to trouble the scoreboard at any stage of the 54-0 defeat.
