Former New South Wales State of Origin and Australian representative Zac Lomax will return to rugby league with the PNG Chiefs when Papua New Guinea enters the NRL in 2028.

Lomax was officially unveiled as the franchise's fifth signing during a press conference in Port Moresby yesterday, adding further international quality to the Chiefs' growing squad ahead of their historic debut.

The former Parramatta Eels outside back signed his contract in the presence of PNG Chiefs chief executive officer Lorna McPherson and general manager football Michael Chammas.

Lomax left the NRL in March 2026 to take up a two-year contract with the Western Force and Rugby Australia, making the switch to rugby union and competing in Super Rugby Pacific.

His decision to return to the 13-man code gives the PNG Chiefs one of the most experienced outside backs in their recruitment drive as the club prepares for its inaugural NRL campaign.

The 2028 expansion side has already confirmed the signings of Jarome Luai, Alex Johnston, Connor Watson and Matty Lees.

Lomax is expected to play an important role as the PNG Chiefs assemble a squad capable of competing at the highest level when the club makes its long-awaited NRL debut.
