PNG PM extends congratulations to US on 250 years of independence

Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape has sent his congratulations to United States President Donald J. Trump, his administration and the American people following celebrations marking 250 years of American independence on July 4.

The Prime Minister described the milestone as a significant moment in world history, noting that it resonates strongly with countries like PNG that continue striving to uphold the ideals of freedom, democracy and self-determination.

According to Marape, the United States has spent two and a half centuries as a global leader in democratic governance, contributing heavily toward international peace, security and economic progress.

“For 250 years, the United States has stood as one of the world’s leading democracies, making significant contributions to global peace, security, innovation and economic development. Its remarkable journey continues to inspire nations, including Papua New Guinea, as we pursue our own aspirations for growth and prosperity,” he said.

The Prime Minister further highlighted the strong bond shared between Port Moresby and Washington, pointing out that the relationship is anchored in common democratic principles and a mutual desire for regional stability across the Indo-Pacific.

He recalled that ties between the two nations trace back to World War II, when Papua New Guineans and American forces fought side by side during a pivotal chapter of global history.

“Today, that relationship continues to grow through cooperation in defence, trade and investment, health, education, energy, disaster response and people-to-people exchanges,” PM Marape said.
