PNG Lutheran health services get boost as Australian donation arrives

 A container of medical supplies donated by Queensland organisations and volunteers has been officially handed over to Lutheran Health Services in Lae.

The supplies, which arrived in Papua New Guinea on board an Australian Navy vessel, are set to be distributed to Lutheran health facilities across Morobe, Madang and the Highlands, offering critical support to health workers dealing with shortages of essential medical consumables.

Mr Brenton Kanowski, Australian Consul-General in Lae, said the shipment was a practical way of supporting Lutheran Health Services and the communities that rely on its network of hospitals and clinics.

"The collection and packing was done by volunteers in Queensland, and we helped facilitate the transport to PNG," Mr Kanowski stated.

He noted that the collaboration between volunteers, community groups and government was a powerful example of how partnerships could deliver real outcomes for health services in PNG.

Lutheran Health Services plays a vital role in providing healthcare to communities, particularly in areas where government health services are not easily accessible.

A representative from the organisation said the supplies would provide immediate support to health workers and patients, helping facilities cope with ongoing resource constraints.

The Australian Navy vessel also delivered two fire trucks and other supplies for community projects during its visit to Lae.

The medical consumables are expected to bring some relief to Lutheran hospitals and clinics across the country
