SP PNG Hunters Turn Around Clydesdales Clash to Secure Home Win
The SP PNG Hunters produced a strong second-half comeback to defeat the Western Clydesdales 18-12 at Santos National Football Stadium in Port Moresby, giving the PNG side a much-needed victory on home soil.
It was a match of two contrasting halves, with the Clydesdales holding a 12-4 lead at the break before the Hunters changed the momentum after half-time. The home side scored three tries in the second period and finished the game with an 18-12 advantage.
The visitors struck first through Joel Hughes in the 17th minute, followed by Kaden Buhse's try in the 35th minute. Woodbridge converted both to give the Clydesdales a commanding lead.
Banam reduced the margin with a try in the 39th minute, but the Hunters still went into the interval trailing.
After the restart, Lama crossed in the 51st minute and Ulalom followed with another try nine minutes later. Solu converted both scores to put the Hunters in front.
With the match entering its final stages, Mavoko added a penalty goal in the 79th minute to complete the scoring.
The Hunters held on through the closing minutes to record an 18-12 win and send the home crowd away with a result to celebrate.
