PNG Banking System Moves Closer to Wider BSP Kundu Card Access

PNG banking customers using BSP Kundu Chip cards could soon have access to a wider network of ATMs and EFTPOS terminals as work progresses to enable interbank card services across the country.

BSP says it is working with the Bank of Papua New Guinea (BPNG) and other participating financial institutions as the final stages of testing are carried out under upgrades to the Retail Electronic Payments System (REPS).

The improvements are aimed at strengthening the country’s electronic payments infrastructure and allowing customers to use their BSP-issued Kundu Chip cards at ATMs and EFTPOS terminals operated by participating banks.

BSP said the technical work was progressing well, with the service expected to become available shortly once the required testing and preparations have been completed.

The expanded network is expected to give Kundu cardholders greater choice when accessing cash and making electronic payments, particularly where a BSP terminal may not be immediately available.

The bank thanked its customers for their patience while the final preparations are undertaken.

BSP said it remained focused on providing secure and convenient banking services and looked forward to making the expanded card access available to Kundu Chip cardholders.
