PNG Public Servants Selected For Specialised Training In Japan
Public servants from Papua New Guinea have been selected to undertake specialised training in Japan under the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Knowledge Co-Creation Programme (KCCP), aimed at strengthening professional skills across government institutions.
The officers, representing various government departments, authorities and state agencies, attended a pre-departure briefing at the JICA Papua New Guinea office before travelling for their respective training programmes. Their studies will cover a wide range of technical and professional fields, including air navigation, geology, port engineering, surveying and geographic information systems, water supply, disaster risk reduction, urban planning, bridge engineering, waste management and museum studies.

The first group will undertake training from September to October, while the remaining participants are scheduled to attend courses between October and December 2026.
The programme is expected to equip the officers with specialised knowledge and practical skills that can be applied within their respective organisations upon returning to Papua New Guinea.
National Museum and Art Gallery curator Mukta Magaiva welcomed the opportunity, saying the training would support both her professional development and the growth of the institution.
“Thank you to the JICA PNG office for this wonderful opportunity… As a museum curator I am very fortunate to attend this training which will enrich me with new skills and knowledge to contribute to the growth of my institution and in my personal career growth.”
JICA continues to support capacity-building initiatives for Papua New Guinea's public sector, with the aim of improving professional expertise and contributing to the country's long-term development.
Public servants interested in future KCCP training opportunities have been encouraged to contact their respective corporate offices or organisational training coordinators for details on eligibility and nomination procedures.
